Registering as a new patient
We welcome new patients to our practice. You can register by calling reception or completing a new patient registration form when you arrive.
Please note that a non-attendance fee of $25 applies for missed appointments without at least two hours notice. No further appointments will be made until any outstanding amount has been paid.
Book your first appointmentPrescriptions & referrals
Under normal circumstances, prescriptions and referrals will not be provided without a consultation. Please make an appointment for repeat prescriptions and referrals. This appointment can be via telehealth if you are a regular patient and have been seen face to face in the last 12 months.
If you wish to obtain these services without an appointment and the doctor consents, an administrative fee of $22.00 (inc. GST) will be charged to cover administrative expenses.
Test results
When your doctor orders tests, results are reported back to your doctor who then decides what action to take. If the result requires urgent care, we will contact you immediately.
If the report is not urgent but should be discussed, we will send you an SMS or our staff will call you to make an appointment. If you do not hear from us, you can assume your results are normal — however it is encouraged to book an appointment with your GP to follow them up.
Zero tolerance policy
Our practice staff are here to help you. Our aim is to be polite and as helpful as possible to all patients. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any verbal, aggressive and violent abuse and behaviours towards our staff or other patients.
The following behaviours are unacceptable:
- Using bad language or swearing at practice staff
- Any physical violence towards any member of the Primary Health Care Team or other patients
- Verbal abuse towards staff in any form, including on the telephone
- Racial abuse
- Sexual harassment
- Theft and damage to practice property
Recall & reminder messages
Our practice uses a recall and reminder system to help keep you up to date with preventive health checks, chronic disease reviews, and follow-up appointments. You may receive an SMS or letter from us when a review is due.
Transfer of medical records
A copy of your medical records can be released to another practice upon receipt of a signed release on practice letterhead. A brief medical summary is sent to another GP practice at no charge. An administration fee applies for full record transfers.
Patient privacy
The Oaks General Practice is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal health information. Your records are stored securely and accessed only by authorised staff involved in your care. We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Fees & billing
We bulk bill every eligible patient for every eligible service. There is a gap fee for procedures and some services where the Medicare rebate does not cover practice expenses. Gap fees will be discussed at the time of making an appointment.
These charges are not claimable through Medicare as they are not Medicare items. Fees are subject to change — please contact us if you have any questions.
